GM'S Hockey League

Welcome graphic

Gm's Hockey League is a fantasy hockey league for players who wish to step into the shoes of a NHL general manager. Players pick a team and build it from scratch through the draft, trades and waiver claims. This league will run indefinitely so players will keep their teams from season to season.

Games in the league are simulated using the FHL Sim.com, hockey simulator program. Each team will complete a full 82 game schedule conducted at basicly the same time as the real NHL season. At the end of the season, the league holds it's Entry Draft for players that have become eligible that year, with the draft order determined by the season's order of finish.

The GM'S Hockey League is for dedicated hockey fans who are willing to commit time and energy  to build a franchise to power and glory, and have lots of fun along the way.

Teams:

Hot: Tampa Bay is very hot right now, currently on a 7 game winning streak holding a record of 8-4-1 (17 points), and quickly climbing the Eastern Conference standings.  The Lightning are allowing the fewest shots against per game right now at 24.3 which is certainly helping out their goaltending which seems to be the only struggling point on the team.  Despite only giving up 24.3 shots a game, they are still allowing 2.69 goals per game, a save percentage of 89% for the team.  The Lightning have also been struggling on the PK lately, with a disappointing 78.9%.  Regardless, Tampa has been able to outscore their opponents in their last 7 games and that makes them the hottest team in the league.  Tampa's leading scorer is Keith Tkachuk with 9 goals and 7 assists, +9.

Not: Minnesota (2-11-0) has gotta find a way to start winning some hockey games, and they need to find it fast!  The Wild are 27th in PK (76.1%), 21st in PP (9.0%), 30th in goals for (1.69), 26th in goals against (3.08).  These numbers don't show much for the struggling Wild.  They need to find a way to turn it around before this season ends in a bust before its halfway over.  Jan Bulis leads the team in goals with 5, and Mike Johnson leads the team in points with 10 but he is also a -11.  Can anything save the poor Wild?.

Players:

Hot:  "Slava" Kozlov is this issues Hot Player.  Kozlov has gone 4-4-8 +5 in his last 4 games, which obviously averages a goal and assist per game.  Kozlov is a big reason why the Sharks are on currently on top of the West, as he leads the team in points with 19, which is also good enough to earn 2nd most in the league.  Kozlov is showing no signs of slowing down as he powers himself and his line mates in the standings.  Kozlov was acquired from Calgary during the off-season, and has shown he has what it takes.
Not:  Jaromir Jagr is playing WAY below expectations for the LA Kings right now.  A consistent 35+ goal scorer has only managed to grab 2 goals and 7 assists in 13 games so far this year, going -6 in the process.  Rumors from the Kings organization are that Jagr could be traded soon...but could the Kings be asking too much?

Trade of the Week:

 Coming soon...

NHL NEWS!
Lafleur says fun has gone out of game

Guy Lafleur says playing in this weekend's Heritage Classic against Edmonton Oilers alumni such as Wayne Gretzky and Mark Messier will give fans a glimpse of what hockey used to be like.

In an interview with TSN, Lafleur says the NHL needs to make some much needed changes, saying the current defensive style of hockey employed by many teams is to blame.

"From the fans point of view it becomes a boring game to watch and it's not like it used to be," says the 52 year old former Canadiens star. "I know people are looking back to the '70s the '80s where it was more wide open."

Lafeur says the league should consider eliminating some teams so that the talent isn't spread so thinly.

"To me they should cut down to 24 teams, meaning more All-Star type players on each team. Eventually, what (the NHL) should do is to have a European division and they play for the Stanley Cup at the end of the season."

"The European hockey players would play in their country and here they would have more players that people would easily identify with. That would make a big difference"

Lafleur says while players in his day were not making millions of dollars, they were having fun playing hockey, which is something a lot of players are missing out on in today's NHL
